Danduran promoted to Major

Jacob Danduran, a native of New Rockford and 2005 graduate of New Rockford High School, was recently promoted to major during a North Dakota Army National Guard ceremony in Bismarck at the Raymond J. Bohn Armory on July 14.

Lt. Col. Mark Topp, N.D. Army National Guard G-3 state training officer, presided over the promotion ceremony attended by Danduran's family, friends and fellow Guardsmen.

Danduran currently serves full-time as the officer in charge of the Bismarck-based 131st Military Police Battalion, where his responsibilities are to manage the staff for the day-to-day functions of the 131st, which "ultimately supports the overall readiness of the battalion."

Since first enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2004, Danduran has built an impressive resume and has worked hard to rise through the ranks.

He earned his commission as a second lieutenant through the University of North Dakota's (UND) ROTC program in 2010, and from 2012 to 2013, he deployed to Guantanamo Bay with the 191st Military Police Company in support of Enduring Freedom.

Danduran holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from UND and is a graduate of the U.S. Army's Military Police Basic Officer Leadership Course, U.S. Army Engineer Captains Career Course, and Air Assault course.

"Just working hard and being a team player," said Danduran on how he's managed to progress in his career. "You kind of control your own career in the National Guard. There's lots of opportunities, and as long as you take them they can help you progress."

Danduran also had advice for anyone thinking of enlisting and who might want to progress in their military careers, particularly for those enlisting at a young age - just as he did back in 2004.

"You're only limited by yourself on what you want to do," he said. "It's given me opportunities to meet a lot of new people, to go do training all over the United States and pay for my college. It's just been endless opportunities.

"We're always looking for good quality people that want to be a part of a team," he added.

Danduran has now been part of that team for nearly two decades, and although he's just been promoted, he's already looking forward to new opportunities to continue leading and serving his country.

"Now that I've been promoted, there's additional schools I can go to that I'm qualified to attend," he said, "... so I'll continue to progress in my education and look to seek out opportunities for positions of higher responsibility within the organization."

Danduran thanked his parents for supporting his decision to join the military at a young age, as well as the leadership and mentorship that's helped him build his career. Danduran currently resides in Bismarck with his wife, Allana, and daughter, Presely.
