Black Sox eliminated on day 2 of Region 3 Tourney play

The SNR Black Sox had a tough regular season, and entered this years' regional tournament on an 11-game losing streak.
Nonetheless, the No. 6 seed Black Sox gave it their all last week as they fought to finish their season on a high, and on Wednesday, May 18, they kicked off the regional tournament with a resounding 14-7 victory over the No. 3 seed Kidder County Wolves.
The Wolves and the Black Sox played each other twice during the regular season, and the Wolves had come out on top each time. On this occasion, however, SNR established a commanding lead in the opening innings and didn't look back.
After the first three innings, the Black Sox already had a 10-run lead, which continued to grow and was strong enough to weather a fierce comeback attempt later in the seventh inning.
It was an upset win few expected, but was well-earned all the same. It was also the Black Sox' first win since early April, and many hoped it could carry over into more upsets as the tournament progressed.
Up next were the No. 2 seed Carrington Cardinals.
Whenever Keaton Cudworth has been on the mound this season, the Black Sox have had a chance to win, a trend that once again showed itself versus the Cardinals on Monday, May 23.
Cudworth pitched 5.2 innings, gave up four earned runs, allowed eight hits and struck out four batters - not his best outing this season, but was good enough to keep the Black Sox in contention throughout.
After losing an early lead and later falling behind 5-2, Haydon Meier stepped to the plate in the seventh inning and knocked in two Black Sox runners with a clutch double.
The comeback attempt was short lived, however, as the tying run never crossed home plate, ending the game at 5-4 in the Cardinals' favor.
The loss sent SNR to the lower bracket, where they fought for their tournament lives versus Midkota.
The Black Sox were unable to keep up their offensive production, however, and not even a rain-related postponement seemed to help. More defensive errors also played a role, allowing Midkota to breeze by with a 5-0 win.
The Black Sox finished their season with a 3-14 overall record after the regional tournament.
