Summer ball to start June 1

Pool opening dependent on completion of water plant

After enduring a record-breaking winter and an already turbulent spring, it’s high time to begin looking forward to summer.

Thankfully, the New Rockford Park District is well underway with planning and preparations.

According to New Rockford Park District Director Dennis Nybo, cleaning the swimming pool began last week, and they’re hoping to have the pool opened by the week of June 6.

However, the pool opening largely depends on the ongoing water plant project. Before they can begin filling the pool with water, New Rockford’s water treatment plant and all its new upgrades must be fully operational.

“The recommendation from the engineers, the city staff and our chemical people, is that before we fill we have to wait and make sure that the water in town is good,” said Nybo.

Meanwhile, swimming lessons for levels one, two and three in both sessions are all booked up, but the potential for additional swimming lessons still exists.

Should there be enough interest, said Nybo, the Park District can hold a one-week-long session in August. Those interested should contact the park district at (701) 302-8105 or by sending an email to: [email protected].

Also on the schedule this summer are baseball and softball.

This summer’s ball sports, which include Babe Ruth, Cal Ripkin, Pee Wee, coach pitch, t-ball and girls’ softball, are set to begin the week of June 1.

To stay up to date on specific start dates, be sure to ‘like’ the New Rockford Park District’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/newrockfordparkdistrict.

Nybo added that he’s still looking for a coach for t-ball and coach pitch, and anyone interested should call or email the park district.

Lastly, if residents are looking to use the park’s shelters, they must be reserved ahead of time, said Nybo.

Contact the park district to make reservations, and once they’re made, signage will be posted to signify that a shelter’s been reserved.

After a whirlwind of a winter and spring, it’s finally time to soak in the sun, warm weather, and to enjoy our favorite summer activities!

“What we’re looking for is to have a fun, safe summer with, hopefully, rain only when we need it,” joked Nybo, “and with everybody enjoying their participation in all the different activities and events that we have.”
