Doris Griffin shared the following information about her geese: Doris has tame, white Embden geese. They can live to be about 30 years of age and males weigh about 20 pounds and females about 13. Doris has some that are around 20 years old.

In the spring, they will begin to separate into couples as both males and females take care of the goslings after hatching. The male will also guard and protect the female on the nest during the hatching process. It takes 29 to 31 days for the goslings to hatch. Some eggs will hatch a bit earlier than others. Then the female has to make a decision whether to just take care of the hatched goslings or keep sitting to hatch the rest. Doris checks the nest after the mother leaves the nest with the hatched goslings. If there are some eggs ready to hatch, meaning they have started pipping or breaking the shell, she has put those eggs under a sitting chicken hen and the hen has hatched them out. But, the hen is not very good at taking care of the goslings, so Doris adopts them until they are big enough to join the gaggle of geese. Both the male and the female are very protective of their young, but usually will accept a newcomer gosling into the crowd.
