Sermonette: March 28, 2022

Is spring finally here? It sure looks like it. I walked to work today and didn't have to worry about slipping on the ice. It was a beautiful morning. We had so much ice this year and let's throw in wind as well. Nothing like a strong wind blowing snow over the ice to polish it up nice and shiny and slippery. I had a meeting with a family at the funeral home early this afternoon. Sometime between my walk to the office in the morning and my afternoon drive to New Rockford to the funeral home, it got quite windy, cold and even a drop a two of rain. By the time the meeting ended it was snowing. Not a cold wintertime type snow, but one where the flakes melted the minute they hit the ground. The wind made if feel like it was much colder than it really was but I really didn't mind it because I know that at this time of year, even if we do get a significant snowfall, it will melt very soon.

Other signs of spring are here, reminding us of the change of seasons. The high school basketball tournaments are over and the college tournament is getting down to the end. There have been upsets at all levels, but we don't mind, it makes for good conversation when a small school pulls the upset and beats a big, nationally prominent school. Last Sunday was the Vernal Equinox. Those who know about these things say it happened at 10:30 or so Sunday morning. Baseball season is here again. The professional overpaid players and the obscenely rich teams have worked out their differences and are playing exhibition games and the official season is about to start.

We have other changes as well. I've talked to a couple of people who said the flowers that are planted close to their houses have started their spring growth. Some have said they even have a little green grass growing in parts of the lawn that get a lot of sunshine. The calving season is just starting for those who have cattle. To cap it off, I had three robins in my yard today hopping around looking for goodies to eat.

Yep. Changes. Everything changes this time of year. Whoa! Did I say everything changes this time of year? That is not correct. Let's look at a couple of verses from Psalm 100. Verse 3, “Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his.” Then take a look at verse 5. “For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.”

The words that stick out for us are, “we are his.” God is our creator, He created us, He Loves us. The words “steadfast love” means that it is the same for everybody. It never changes, it never waivers from weak to strong or anyplace in-between. God's love for Joseph, and Noah, and David and Mary and all the people we read about in the Bible, is the same love He has for us. It will be the same love He will have for our grand children and their grandchildren. It is a steadfast love meant for everyone. In this time of change in the sports seasons, the weather seasons, outdoor work, all the changes we encounter in the spring, remember that God's love for us is steadfast. It NEVER changes. Blessings to you all.
