Five NR-S archers place at home tourney

Archery is for the tall and the small. Archers in grades 4-12 competed in the New Rockford-Sheyenne Archery Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 5.

New Rockford-Sheyenne freshman Hunter Genre came out on top at the New Rockford archery tournament held last weekend.

Genre scored a 286, earning him not only first place in the high school boys division, but also top male archer of the tournament.

He was bested only by seventh grader Mackenzie Nogowski of North Sargeant, who scored a whopping 290 points in her bullseye flight. Nogowski finished first in the middle school girls division and was the top female archer of the day.

Other Rocket archers who earned medals included Macey Wobbema and Kyria Dockter, second and third place in high school girls, respectively. Layton Jacobson finished second in middle school boys, and Fisher Genre third among elementary boys.

Head Coach Mike Schaefer said 16 NR-S archers shot their personal best score at the tournament. Here is a list of the 16 archers that shot personal bests: MacKenzie Allmaras, 211; Ava Bullinger, 207; Jacob Cleveland, 178; Jax Demester, 238; Jaydee Duda, 211; Seth Greiner, 163; Makaya Heskin, 110; Kailar Jacobson, 275; Aubree Kukowski, 167; Reagan Lange, 187; Jocee Lawrence, 228; Jacob Louters, 265; Hudson Myhre, 204; Ziarah Reisenauer, 68; Gabe Smith, 198; Koa Zieman, 264.

A total of 257 youth from 11 schools competed in the tournament. The first two flights began at 5:50 p.m. Friday night, Feb. 4. The tournament re-opened Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with the Star Spangled Banner played by NR-S archer Gabe Smith.
