"Ways we use energy" contest for fifth graders

North Dakota is rich in fossil fuels—coal, oil and natural gas. Hundreds of items we use every day are made from them.

Fifth grade students anywhere in North Dakota are encouraged to research these energy sources and find out what some of the many items are. You might be surprised. One example (which you can’t use) is your eye glasses!

The title of this contest is “Ways we use energy”. Do your research and write down all you can find. Be sure to number them, as the entries with the most correct answers will win prizes.

Start searching and writing! Be prepared to be surprised at the many unusual uses. Be sure to include your full name, address and school on the back of your list. Mail your completed list to Marlene Kouba, 6160 105 th Ave SW, Regent, N.D. 58650 by March 11.

This contest is sponsored by North Dakota Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE). WIFE is a grassroots organization that has state and national officers who help promote production agriculture throughout the nation.
