Official Newspaper of Eddy County since 1883

2022 Election: Filing date for local races is April 11

Seats held by two county commissioners, five country officials up for reelection

Eddy County is scheduled to have seven positions up for election this year, and the deadline for submitting petitions is fast approaching.

On Tuesday, June 14, residents will be asked to vote on the following positions in Eddy County:

• Commissioner - currently occupied by Dave Gehrtz

• Commissioner - currently occupied by Neal Rud

• Auditor - currently occupied by Patty Williams

• Treasurer - currently occupied by Kathy Anderson

• Sheriff - currently occupied by Paul Lies

• State’s Attorney - currently occupied by Ashley Lies

• Recorder - currently occupied by Patty Hilbert

Anyone interested in running for one of those seven positions must submit their petitions to Eddy County Auditor Patty Williams by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11. Williams informed the Transcript that only one petition had been filed as of Wednesday, which was submitted by Kathy Anderson who’s running to be reelected as the county’s treasurer - a position she’s held since 2007.

Those who hadn’t submitted their petition by Wednesday, but who plan to run for reelection, include Dave Gehrtz for County Commissioner and Patty Williams for County Auditor. Whether or not others will run for reelection remains to be seen.

Your local newspaper is up for reelection too. The New Rockford Transcript will be running to continue as Eddy County's official newspaper for another four years.

Williams told the Transcript that residents will once again be given the option of voting by mail this year. According to the N.D. Secretary of State’s website, “voters who know they will not be voting in person at an election may prepare an application for a ballot to be mailed or handed to them before the election.”

Applications for voting by mail will be sent to everyone who voted in the last election, and can also be filled out at Vote.nd.gov. The Transcript will also have a copy of the application printed in the newspaper, which voters can then cut out and submit.

Applicants must be able to provide a valid form of identification, and all information provided must match data already recorded by the state. If the application is incomplete or doesn’t match the state’s records, the application will be returned to the applicant for correction. For those wishing to do it the old-fashioned way, an in-person polling location will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brown Memorial Auditorium on June 14.

As more petitions are submitted, the Transcript will continue to inform Eddy County voters of who's running and for what positions they’re aiming for.
