Leonard James Simenson, 74, of Glenfield, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021 at his home.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at Prairie Faith Lutheran Church, Glenfield, N.D., with burial at the Glenfield Cemetery. Rev. Russ Christiansen officiated with special music by Annola Black. Casket bearers were Arlyn Hoyt, Curt Walen, Gary Delfs, Bob Delfs, DuWayne Ditterich and Grant Johnson. Honorary bearers were Brock Smith, Michael Delfs, Justin Slocum and Justin Reiland.

Leonard was born July 23, 1947 in Valley City, N.D., the son of Sever and Phyllis (Langager) Simenson. Leonard was the oldest of three children. He grew up in rural Kingsley Township, attended country school for a short time and graduated from Glenfield-Sutton High School in 1965. He went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from NDSU. Following college, Leonard enlisted in the Army National Guard and completed training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

On Aug. 30, 1969 Leonard married JoAnn Johnson of Glenfield. He started work in the insurance field at First State Bank in Cooperstown and then at Walle Mutual Insurance Agency in Grand Forks. In 1973 Leonard returned to Glenfield to continue the farming operation. He and JoAnn raised four children there and farmed until his retirement.

During his lifetime, he served on the township board and the Glenfield Fire Department board of directors.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn; children, Laura (Joe), Northwood, N.D., Daniel (Allison), Glenfield, N.D., John (Kelly), Amherst, Ohio and Anne (Nathan), Chisago City, Minn.; six grandchildren; sisters, Rebecca (Robert) Delfs, Binford, N.D. and Susan (Arlyn Hoyt) Bakko, McHenry, N.D.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
