Instant replay: Cardinals defeat Rockets in home gym

If you watched the match-up between the New Rockford-Sheyenne and Carrington boys basketball teams on Monday, Dec. 13, you would think that the Tuesday's girls' basketball game between the Rockets and Cardinals was an instant replay. Why is that you may ask? Both games were very high-paced, and both concluded with an average of a 28-point loss for the Rockets.

With 5'11" senior center Sydnie Grager posted up under the basket, there was no chance in defeating the Cardinals. Grager scored in the double digits for the Cardinals with 24 total points, leading the Cardinals to a 65-38 win over the Rockets.

The Cardinals took a 10-point lead over the Rockets after the first quarter. And the points just kept adding up for the Cardinals, with the Rockets only able to put in half the points of Carrington. The Rockets kept the points close in the fourth quarter, with the Rockets scoring 12 and the Cardinals scoring 13.

NR-S senior Kennedy Demester led the Rockets in points with a total of 15, with six coming from three-pointers and eight coming from field goals.

The Cardinals are currently 4-1, only losing to Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier during the Stutsman County Tournament, whereas the Rockets are sitting at 3-3.

No teams were successful against the Cardinals on this night. The b-squad team was defeated 15-40, the eighth grade team lost 12-24, and the seventh grade team lost 13-24.

Next up for the Rockets girls' basketball team will be the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans on Monday, Dec. 20 in Cooperstown, starting with the seventh grade team at 4 p.m.

The Cardinals will travel to Fort Totten on Monday, Dec. 20 to take on nondistrict competitors, the Four Winds-Minnewaukan Lady Indians starting with junior varsity at 6 p.m.
