N.D. Farm Bureau hires Overby

Northeast North Dakota has a new representative at the North Dakota Farm Bureau (NDFB). Megan Overby, originally from the Michigan, N.D. area, is the NDFB's new northeast field representative.

Having grown up on the Ternquist family farm near Michigan, N.D., Overby has had a passion for agriculture since her childhood, and is looking forward to growing that passion as she embarks on a new career.

"My passion for agriculture did start at a young age and obviously continued to grow throughout college and my previous professional careers," Overby said. "So it's just exciting to live out that passion by being part of the NDFB field staff team."

After graduating from NDSU in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science, as well as a minor in ag communications, Overby began work at the Minnesota Farm Bureau and later as an agriculture journalist for the Red River Farm Network. Now, Overby is excited to represent 13 counties in northeast North Dakota, including Eddy and Foster Counties.

"Looking at the calendar, I'm almost exactly one month into my job, and I hit the ground running," Overby said. "I actually attended my first county farm bureau meeting, which was in Foster County, on the day I started. ... From here on out it's only going to get busier, but I definitely look forward to working with and seeing more of the counties that are a part of NDFB."

In her new position, Overby provides support and leadership development opportunities for NDFB members in northeast North Dakota. Her responsibilities include attending and/or helping plan events that county farm bureaus might hold, attending their monthly board meetings, providing guidance and contact information, and much more.

As Overby herself put it, "I wear many different hats, but the easiest way to sum it up is, I'm a liaison between the county boards and our state organization."

Meanwhile, Overby and her husband will also be operating their own farm and ranch near Binford, where they raise cattle and a diversified portfolio of crops. With her life-long experience in farming and passion for agriculture, the NDFB is happy to have Overby on their team.

"Megan's passion for agriculture and strong work ethic will be a true asset for her county farm bureaus," said NDFB Director of Organizational Development Joey Bailey, in a press release. "We are thrilled to have Megan help advocate for agriculture through her work with NDFB."

Overby encourages anyone that's interested in joining their local farm bureau to reach out to herself at [email protected], or other state staff at the NDFB. For more information about the NDFB you can visit their website at ndfb.org.

"One thing that I'm really looking forward to bringing to this role is that I'm a firm believer that building and maintaining relationships is definitely key in promoting agriculture, and also educating those who are not involved in agriculture," Overby added. "I'm looking forward to connecting both current and new farm bureau members."
