Edgar Joseph Duda, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Carrington, N.D.

Funeral service will be on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford, with burial at Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford. Corey Pepple will officiate the service. Military honors by the North Dakota National Guard Funeral Honors Team and the Raymond B. Thorn American Legion, Post #30, New Rockford.

Edgar was born April 28, 1927, in Superior Township near New Rockford, N.D., to Ferdinand and Hilda Christ Duda. His dad married Hazel Pierson, and they had five children. He attended country school and lived on the family farm, and also worked for area farmers.

Edgar was a veteran. In 1946, he enlisted and served two years in the Army Air Force. When stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumter, S.C., he met Dorothy Chandler, whom he married and they had three children. He made his home in Sumter, S.C. for many years and worked at Santee Print Works; also, as a mechanic, and worked on the largest turkey ranch in the southeast.

In the fall of 1966, he moved his family to New Rockford, N.D. A year later, his wife moved back to South Carolina, unable to withstand the harsh North Dakota winters, and his children chose to stay with him. He farmed his own land and helped his brothers with their farming, raised cattle and pigs, and worked at Weber Sand and Gravel, and Peavey Elevator. He retired in 1990.

He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Hoppe, Carrington; son, Lawrence Duda, Carrington; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Duda (Joan), Mt. Shasta, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: mother, Hilda Duda; father, Ferdinand Duda; step-mother, Hazel Duda; wife, Dorothy Duda; son, Donald Duda; two grandchildren; son-in-law, Chuck Hoppe, Sr.; half-brothers, LaVerne, Gerald, Lyle and half-sister, Arlys.
