Gregory Nils Johnson, 69, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at the CHI St. Alexis Health Center, Carrington.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington. Rev. Ray Hagan officiated, with special music by Brenda Larson and Clara Edwardson. Casket bearers were Tom Bronaugh, Bob Gross, Greg Hoeckle, Arick Scherr, Tyre Lealpaldt, Marty Hochhalter, Dan Miller, Scott Miller, Marc VanRay and Dale Eggers. Honorary bearers were all of Greg's family and close friends.

Greg was born on Jan. 23, 1952, at Hot Springs, S.D. His parents were Glen and Delores Johnson of Rugby, N.D.

He attended the University of North Dakota, and graduated from Valley City State University, where he played basketball. While attending VCSU, he belonged to the Tau Sig Fraternity where he gained many life-long friends.

Greg and Renee were united in marriage in Rugby, N.D. on Aug. 30, 1975. They were blessed with two children, Ann and Kyle. Greg taught at Goodrich, N.D. and then finished his teaching career at Carrington High School. He coached football, girls and boys basketball, and boys and girls golf. He was also Athletic Director, and the Class B State Golf tournament manager. He taught geography, social studies, health, and physical education.

Greg is survived by his wife Renee, daughter Ann (Jason Gustafson) and grandchildren Benjamin and Adeline of Fargo, son Kyle (fiancée Brittany Schlosser) and grandchildren Camden and Sawyer Schlosser of Mandan; sister Kathy (Fred Bonn) of Rugby; mother-in-law Mae Hinrichs, Lidgerwood; brother-in-law Wayne Hinrichs (Linda) of Lidgerwood; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Harley Hinrichs.
