Rockets clash with Titans

On Monday, Oct. 25, the Rockets hosted the Griggs-Midkota Titans in the New Rockford-Sheyenne gymnasium. The Rockets also had their senior night to recognize Mya Cudworth, Alexa Holth, Maria Becker, Macey Wobbema, Delana Thomas and Kennedy Demester, as these six seniors will be graduating in May. The Rockets competed against the Titans in Carrington during the Carrington Varsity Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 9, so the Rockets knew how tough the Titans were. After a good fight, the Titans pulled away with a 25-21 victory in the first set.

The Rockets came back in the second set to sweep the Titans 25-14, along with the third set 25-18. But the Titans and their head coach, New Rockford native, Kathleen (Demester) Eggermont weren't going to hand over the win that easily. The Titans pushed through and defeated the Rockets in the fourth 25-19.

Set five. Game time. The Titans and Rockets volleyed back and forth until the Titans had a 12-8 lead. With Cudworth up to serve for the Rockets, they would not only tie up the game, but take down the Titans 15-12.

The Titans are currently sitting fourth in District 15, behind Carrington. The Rockets are sitting third in Region 4.

Kelsie Belquist led the Rockets in kills with a total of 18. Madisen Myhre and Cudworth were also in double digits, with Myhre having ten and Cudworth having 12. For the Titans, Asia Becherl held the most kills with 18, with Jenna Larson not far behind with 13.

A total of 23 aces were scored during the matchup. The Rockets had a total of 11 aces, whereas the Titans had a total of 12. Cudworth led the Rockets with four aces and Medora Brandner led the Titans with three.

The Rockets had a total of 17 blocks against Griggs-Midkota on Monday, with five of those blocks coming from senior Macey Wobbema. This match up was Wobbema's best game all season with her five blocks and two kills. The Titans received a total of seven blocks, with Brandner, Larson and Becherl all with two and Josie Johnson with one.

Kaiya O'Connor led the Rockets in assists with a total of 35, with Ava Peterson behind with four, Delana Thomas with two and Myhre, Demester and Belquist each with one. Brandner held the most assists for the Titans with 39, with J. Johnson behind with two and Larson with one.

Demester held the most digs for the Rockets with 20, with Belquist also in double digits with 13. For the Titans, senior Emma Kollman held the most with 32 digs with Larson behind with a total of 11.

The Rockets will travel to McVille on Monday, Nov. 1, to take on the Nelson County Chargers (A,B,C,8,7) starting at 3:30 p.m. This will be the last Region 4 season game before regionals. Go cheer on the Rockets to victory on Monday night!

As for the Titans they will travel to LaMoure on Oct. 28 to compete in the District 5 Volleyball Tournament.
