Rockets race past Lady Indians

The Rockets traveled to Minnewaukan on Monday, Oct. 11 to take on the Four Winds-Minnewaukan Lady Indians in their home territory.

The Rockets ran full force past the Lady Indians. With a passing error by Ezura Rainbow, the Rockets received the ball for Kennedy Demester to serve three, before making an error on her serve to give the Lady Indians a point on the scoreboard. Next to serve for the Lady Indians was DaNesha Leaf. The Rockets received the ball back after middle hitter Madisen Myhre hit a kill. Eighth grader Ava Peterson served twenty times in a row to score a 25-1 win for the Rockets in the first set.

Set two was a little better for the Lady Indians, but not by much. With a blocking error by Myhre, the Lady Indians put up a point on the board, but the Rockets acquired the ball after a kill from Peterson. The Rockets and Lady Indians would go back and forth with points until freshman Kaiya O'Connor went to the line to serve. O'Connor served a total of 11 times, with six of those serves being aces, until Peterson made a passing error to send the ball back to the Lady Indians. The Lady Indians added three more points to the board. Mya Cudworth served for the Rockets and added five points to their score. A kill from middle blocker Lanehya Malnourie stopped Cudworth's run of serves, but a serve error from Malnourie sent the ball back to the Rockets for Demester to serve out the last five points for the Rockets to defeat the Lady Indians 25-9.

Head coach Sara Myhre decided to put in some of the Rockets non-starters in the end of the second set and all of the third set. Lucy Meier, Delana Thomas, Alexa Holth and Maria Becker took the places of Kelsie Belquist, Myhre, and Peterson to earn some playing time against the Lady Indians.

The third and final set was very similar to the second set with the Rockets and Lady Indians going back and forth with points, until Kyria Dockter was up to serve. Dockter served a total of eight serves in a row, with four being aces. Malnourie hit another kill, to get the ball back to the Lady Indians. With a free-ball kill from Alexa Holth, the Rockets received the ball back for O'Connor to serve another five in a row. An attack by Leaf, and a blocking error by Thomas, sent the ball back to the Lady Indians. Cudworth served two, with one being a serve error to bring the score to 23-8. Demester finished off the set with an ace to finish the set with a score of 25-8.

Peterson served eight of the 28 aces for the Rockets. O'Connor served a total of seven, Demester served five, Dockter served four, and Cudworth and Meier each served two.

With only a few kills from the Lady Indians, only a total of 15 digs were achieved by the Rockets. Demester led the Rockets with seven digs. Other digs for the Rockets came from Cudworth with three, O'Connor with two, and Peterson, Thomas and Becker each with one.

A total of 23 kills were scored by the Rockets, with six kills from Belquist, five from Cudworth, three from Myhre, two each from Peterson, Macey Wobbema and Thomas, and one each from Holth, Becker and Meier.

Most of the Lady Indians kills were blocked by the Rockets. Belquist, O'Connor and Myhre each had two blocks, and Peterson, Wobbema and Becker each had one block.

The only double digits for stats came from O'Connor with her 22 assists.

B-squad, C-squad, eighth grade and seventh grade also came home victorious. B-squad defeated the Lady Indians in two with 25-7 and 25-10. C-squad defeated the Lady Indians 25-7 in both sets. Eighth grade flew past the Lady Indians 25-14 and 25-8. The seventh grade team had more of a fight for their win. The Rockets went ahead 29-27 in the first set, and 25-22 in the second set.
