Feels so good to be home

Rockets reroute Raiders in home opener

After a long and stressful wait, the New Rockford-Sheyenne gymnasium floor renovation is complete. The NR-S volleyball team had been practicing in the Sheyenne gymnasium until the floor in the New Rockford-Sheyenne gymnasium was completed.

The first home match on the new floor was a success. The Rockets defeated the Raiders in four sets, only losing the third set 23-25.

Senior Kennedy Demester held the most digs for the Rockets with 14. Also in double digits for the Rockets was Kaiya O'Connor with 11 and Mya Cudworth with ten. Bailey Clott held the most digs for the Raiders also with 14, with Taryn Sieg also in double digits with 10.

The Rockets had a total of 40 kills against the Raiders. Eighth grader Ava Peterson led with 11 kills, with Belquist also in double digits with 10. Other top hitters for the Rockets were Madisen Myhre with nine, Mya Cudworth with seven, Lora Wobbema with two and O'Connor with one. The Raiders kept up with the Rockets, but only brought 35 kills to the plate. Riley Hauff scored 21 of those kills. Sieg had a total of eight kills, Rylee Martin had a total of three and Jamie Lemer had a total of two.

Sophomore Lora Wobbema, sister of Macey Wobbema, made her varsity debut during the match up against Drake-Anamoose. Wobbema is a middle hitter, like her sister, and had a total of two blocks and two kills. Keep your eyes peeled, as you may be seeing more of her on the varsity court.

Wobbema wasn't the only Rocket athlete to score on blocks. Peterson had a total of three blocks, Myhre blocked two, and O'Connor had one, for a total of eight blocks for the Rockets. Martin and Sieg were the only two to achieve blocks against the Rockets, with three from Martin and two from Sieg.

Another name you haven't heard much of this year is Kyria Dockter. Dockter is the starting libero for the Rockets B-squad team, but has recently been rotating in to serve for Myhre. Dockter led the Rockets and put up four out of 10 aces on Tuesday night. O'Connor scored three of those aces, along with Belquist, Peterson and Demester, who each put up one. The Raiders had a total of nine aces. Martin, Lemur and Hauff all led with two each. Jazzlyn Hase, Ava Wagner and Sieg each brought in one.

O'Connor led the Rockets in assists with 33 total, with Peterson behind her with two. Raiders' Hase had a total of 30 assists with Sieg behind her with three.

The Rockets will take on the Benson County Wildcats (A,B,C,8,7) in Maddock on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. On Thursday, Sept. 30, the Rockets will host the St. John Woodchucks (A,B) starting at 6 p.m.
