The Barnes County North Bison hosted the match-up against the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets on Thursday, Sept. 9.
The Rockets were able to defeat the Bison in the first set 25-19, and the second set 25-15. In the third set, the Bison came back with a 25-19 win. The Rockets weren't going to give away the win, so they came back in the fourth set 25-9.
Kelsie Belquist, Kennedy Demester, Mya Cudworth and Alexa Holth all made double digits for digs. Belquist held the most with 27, Demester at 24, Cudworth at 13, and Holth at 10. Ryann Guscette and Hanna Wieland were the leaders for the Bison with 10 and nine respectively.
Outside hitter Cudworth led the Rockets with 10 kills, with Madisen Myhre behind her with seven. Wieland, and senior outside hitter Trinity Faber, tied with 10 kills each for the Bison.
Myhre held the one and only block between both teams.
Freshman Kaiya O'Connor had a total of 30 assists for the Rockets, while Allison Bryn had 11.
The Rockets scored 13 aces against the Bison with O'Connor holding the most with four, Belquist with three, Maria Becker and Kennedy Demester both with two, and Cudworth and Holth both with one each. The Bison scored a total of seven aces between Wieland and Faber. Wieland scored four and Faber scored three.
The seventh, eighth and b-squad teams were also victorious. The seventh grade team defeated the Bison 25-21 in the first set and 27-25 in the second set. The eighth grade team defeated the Bison 25-17 in both sets. B-squad won 25-21 in the first set, 25-12 in the second set and 15-6 in the third set.
