Duwayne "Bud" Hoyt, 91, of Carrington, N.D., formerly of McHenry, N.D., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital, Carrington.

Funeral service was held on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, McHenry, N.D. Burial followed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, McHenry. Deacon Tara Ulrich officiated with special music by Bernie Madsoe and Annola Black. Casket bearers were Arlyn Hoyt, Leslie Hoyt, Kris Skadberg, Matthew Pound, Brandon Balvitsch, Dakota Hoyt and Montana Hoyt. Honorary bearers were all of Bud's grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Duwayne William Hoyt was born July 12, 1930 in his home in rural McHenry to Fred and Agnes (Hoggarth) Hoyt. He attended country school through eighth grade. He then left school to help on the family farm.

He married Gladys Grafsgaard on Jan. 6, 1951, and they recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. In 1954, he owned and operated his own gravel truck business. Later they decided to settle in McHenry and begin farming.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; his children, Rita (Mike) Balvitsch, Carrington, N.D.; Barbara Pound, Henderson, Nev.; Arlyn (Sue Bakko) Hoyt, McHenry, N.D.; Melody (Doug) Skadberg, New Rockford, N.D.; Leslie (Paulette) Hoyt, McHenry, N.D., and Cindy Risk (Randy Fugl), Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Edgar (Janice) Hoyt, Portland, N.D.; sisters-in-law Jeanne Hoyt, Sheila Hoyt, Alice Stromsodt; brother-in-law Arnold Haugland; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Betty Hoyt, Gladys Walen, Verna Walen, and Delores Haugland; two brothers, Emery Hoyt and Vernon Hoyt.
