Tommies top Rockets in 3

The New Rockford-Sheyenne volleyball team traveled to Thompson to take on the Tommies in their home territory. Knowing the Tommies are ranked third in the state, the Rockets knew this would be a tough season opener.

The Tommies came out of the flood gates ready for a win. With a tough fight, the Rockets were defeated in three straight sets by Thompson (14-25, 16-25, 19-25). Comparing the scores from the 2020 match up between New Rockford and Thompson, New Rockford has improved with their lowest scoring set being 14-25, which was the highest scoring set back in 2020.

Sophomore Kelsie Belquist held the most kills for the Rockets with seven. Not far behind was senior Mya Cudworth with six. For the Tommies, Summer Hegg led all with 11 kills.

Belquist also was the leader in digs with 17, with libero Kennedy Demester also in double digits with 11 digs. Mya Krogstad and Bailey Munson of the Tommies were in double digits with 14 and 13, respectively.

On the assist side of the spectrum, freshman Kaiya O'Connor held the most for the Rockets with 13. Koerber and Schwabe held the most for the Tommies with 17 and 16, respectively.

Madisen Myhre and O'Connor lead the Rockets in blocking with two blocks each, and Macey Wobbema and Peterson each had one.

The junior varsity team took the loss in three sets to Thompson 16-25, 14-25 and 11-15.

The Rockets c-squad was also defeated in three sets to Thompson 21-25, 25-14 and 6-15.

The New Rockford-Sheyenne junior high team traveled to Jamestown on Tuesday, August 31 to compete against the St. John Academy Eagles. The St. John Academy Eagles defeated the Rockets seventh grade team in all three sets. The Rockets eighth grade team won the first set against the Eagles and lost the last two sets.

The Rockets will travel to Pingree on Tuesday, September 7 to take on the Medina-Pingree/Buchanan Thunder in their home gym starting with c-squad playing at 5 p.m. On Thursday, September 9, they will head to Leil to take on the Barnes County North Bison starting at 5 p.m.
