Public invited to attend Sunday's 4-H Round Up

The Eddy County 4-H Council invites families to discover what 4-H has to offer at its annual Round Up event this Sunday, Sept. 12.

The day’s activities begin with the Shooting Sports Picnic from noon to 3 p.m. at the Eddy County Rod & Gun Club gun range, located three miles east of New Rockford. All 4-Hers enrolled in the shooting sports program will show off what they’ve learned this past season, and families who have an interest in participating this coming year will be able to watch them shoot trap and interact with the club leaders and parents.

Burgers and hot dogs will be served to all in attendance, and the shooting sports members will earn some great prizes!

The Shooting Sports Picnic is made possible by an Encouraging Tomorrow’s Hunters grant from N.D. Game and Fish, and is also supported by Eddy County Rod and Gun Club and Justin McDonald, owner of Buck-It's Bar and Hunting Lodge.

Later in the day, join the Eddy County 4-H families for the Round Up Awards Night at the Eddy County Fairgrounds. A meal will be served at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, photos of 4-Hers participating in club meetings, attending events and exhibiting at Achievement Days will be shown, and attendees will have the chance to talk to current 4-Hers about their experiences.

The end-of-year awards ceremony will be held, and all active 4-H members will be recognized for the work and time they put into 4-H this past year.

Families can also register for the new 4-H year at the event. Eddy County has three general membership clubs and one special interest shooting sports club. Youth age 5 - 18 as of Sept. 1 are eligible to participate. Learn more about all four and decide which are the best fit for your family.

4‑H programs are grounded in the belief that kids learn best by doing. Kids and teens complete hands-on projects in areas like science, health, agriculture and civic engagement, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles.

Through 4-H, kids and teens earn skills they can use for a lifetime, such as leadership, public speaking, food preparation and preservation, welding and woodworking. Kids can concentrate on one focus area or they can try a variety of programs throughout their 4‑H experience.

Anyone interested in 4-H who cannot attend Sunday’s event is encouraged to contact the NDSU Extension Eddy County Office at (701) 947-2454.
