Price joins Transcript staff as reporter

For the longest time I had no clue what to do with my life. As a kid, I dreamt of being a professional football player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, or a baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates or even a hockey player for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yes, I've had a strange obsession with the city of Pittsburgh since I was 8 years old...

However, having been born and raised in Huron, S.D., those dreams always felt far-fetched, nor was I athletically gifted. In high school I just went through the motions, giving little if any thought to my future. I decided to attend college at Northern State University (NSU) and take my general classes first, hopefully thinking of a career path in the process.

One day I went to my professor's office to discuss a paper I'd written for class, and she told me something I had never heard before: that I'm actually a decent writer. This seemed impossible to me. English and writing classes were among my least favorite to attend all throughout school, and it was almost impossible to catch me reading a book.

Nevertheless, I decided to combine the two things I'm apparently good at and hope for the best; writing and watching sports. I joined my university's student newspaper, declared myself as an English major, and completed my internship covering NCAA athletics at NSU. I was elected to Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society, and graduated with an English major and history minor. Then Covid happened...

Like it did for so many, the COVID-19 pandemic upended my life. Instead of kicking off my career in journalism I moved back in with my parents, got fired from my job, and found myself working at a grocery store for the next eight months. But as vaccinations became available and the pandemic waned, I decided it was finally time to begin the next chapter of my life.

Luckily for me, a college friend of mine had family connections from a small town in North Dakota I'd never heard of called New Rockford. Together we applied for jobs in the area and officially moved in a few weeks ago. I haven't been in New Rockford long, but in the time I've spent here I've been impressed by the kind people, good food and welcoming atmosphere.

I couldn't be more excited to be working at the Transcript and finally following my chosen career path. I look forward to attending football and volleyball games this fall, getting to know the community, and continuing to discover everything that New Rockford has to offer.
