Eddy County Sheriff's Report for June

Nathan Kalisch of New Rockford was stopped on March 7 at the intersection of Second Avenue and Sixth Street in New Rockford. Authorities identified him as an individual with a suspended license. He was charged with driving under suspension, and also cited for possession of marijuana, an infraction. Kalisch pleaded not guilty to the DUS charge in court on March 24, then reached a plea agreement with authorities in court on June 10. Judge James Hovey sentenced him to two days in jail, which was suspended for 360 days of unsupervised probation. He was also ordered to pay $350 in fines and fees. His DUS charge in Wells County was also closed, as he pleaded guilty in that case on June 9. For that offense, he was sentenced to five days in jail, which was to be served on electronic home monitoring, with proof of completion due within 30 days of the judgment. His fines and fees in that case totaled $285.

Sydney Dockter of New Rockford was in the vehicle with Kalisch. She was arrested on two outstanding warrants, and was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, after marijuana paraphernalia was found in her possession. This was her third such offense in the past year, according to court records. Dockter also pleaded guilty to the charge on June 10, and Judge Hovey handed down a $500 fine and placed her on unsupervised probation for 360 days.

Carl R. McKay Jr. of New Rockford was convicted of driving under the influence. The charge was filed after a March 13 incident. He was stopped along U.S. Hwy. 281 after authorities observed him driving erratically. A breathalyzer test revealed that his blood alcohol concentration was 0.19%, more than twice the legal limit. He was charged with driving under the influence In court on June 23, and McKay pleaded guilty to the charge. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, and was ordered to pay $1,750 in fines and fees. He is also subject to 360 days of unsupervised probation upon his release from jail. This is McKay’s second DUI offense in the past seven years, as he was convicted of the same offense in Eddy County in 2015.

Jared Jorgenson of New Rockford reached a plea agreement with authorities in a driving under suspension case. In exchange for his guilty plea on misdemeanor charges of fleeing a police officer and driving under suspension, he avoided jail time. Instead, Judge Hovey sentenced him to 30 days of electronic home monitoring, with proof of compliance to be provided within 30 days of judgment. If he fails to provide proof, he shall serve 10 days in jail, according to the judgment. He was also assessed $960 in fines and fees, and 360 days of unsupervised probation. Jorgenson also has an open case in Barnes County, where he was charged with driving under suspension and providing false information to law enforcement, after an incident on May 24. He pleaded not guilty to those charges on June 1.

Dominic D. Baker of Devils Lake was convicted of driving under suspension in court on June 10. He was arrested on Jan. 1 along Eddy County 1, near 70th Avenue Northeast, after authorities saw him run a stop sign. He pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge, and a bench trial in the case was held on June 10 before Judge James Hovey. Baker was found guilty of the charge and was sentenced to 10 days in jail, with six days suspended. He was also ordered to pay $500 in fines and fees, and will be subject to 360 days of unsupervised probation upon his release.

Jerry W. Fiebelkorn-Barrett was found in contempt on June 23 for failure to pay fines and fees assessed in a 2019 drug case. He appeared without counsel, and was informed he could purge the contempt charge, and subsequent 10-day jail sentence, by paying $200 per month towards his fines and fees.
