Independence Day events set in Sheyenne

Sheyenne is shining up her boots, dusting off her hat, and planning a Fourth of July revival this year!

All the favorites will be back, starting with the patriotic small town parade at 11:30 a.m., followed by the well-known Stone Pit BBQ dinner served at Ostby Hall. Parade entries may contact Dean at 701-996-2121 or Bob at 701-996-4721.

If anyone needs to cool off after these activities, they can tie their horse up to the rail outside of the air conditioned Sheyenne Senior Center and rest a bit. It will be open from 2 to 4 p.m.

Last, but not least, a rip snortin rodeo (slack at 9 a.m and NDRA rodeo at 3 p.m.), will take place out at the updated and refurbished rodeo grounds at Hendrickson Park, just west of Sheyenne. These grounds are one of the best in the whole area thanks to the Sheyenne Rodeo Club, who have worked tirelessly on improvements over the past several years. Everyone will be entertained with the great competition!

A special note on a few changes for the dinner:

• Folks will go through the lines, but in place of self serving they will be served from the other side of the table by the ladies. There will also be to-go options.

• There will be a little giddyup in the price this year - $15 adults; no change for the young’uns - $5 for ages 6-12 and free for five and under.

• The meal will remain mouth watering, with the uniquely all-night roasted beef, traditional homemade sides of rolls, baked beans, coleslaw, baked potato, pickles, buttered onions, au jus, dessert and beverage.

All proceeds go back into the community through the Sheyenne Fire Dept. and the First Lutheran WELCA who put on this popular event. Thrivent support is also appreciated.

So whether or not you have a cowboy hat, come and kick up your heels at Sheyenne’s Fourth of July celebration!

P.S. For you local ranch hands, the annual clean up [MAINSTREET MATTERS] is Monday, June 21, at 5 p.m., with a sign-up sheet for projects in the Sheyenne Post Office or call Patti Jo at 701-996-3531 or Charlotte at 701-230-2020.

There will also be a small dedication of two park benches at 7 p.m., which will be placed in front of Ostby Hall in memory of Chuck Franks.
