Dakota Recreation Report: June 7, 2021

Outdoor notes:

*Check local fire restrictions when camping, etc. despite late May rains.

Tournaments:

*June 12: Devils Lake, Spirit Lake Casino; Devils Lake, Woodland Resort.

*June 12 and 13: Lake Ashtabula, Ashtabula Crossing.

*June 18: Devils Lake, Grahams Island State Park.

*June 19: Devils Lake, 6-Mile Bay; Lake Sakakawea, Fort Stevenson State Park.

*June 20: Lake Sakakawea, Fort Stevenson State Park.

Fishing:

*Devils Lake elevation, June 1: 1,448.2 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

*Stump Lake elevation: 1,448.12 MSL.

*Lake Sakakawea elevation: 1,835.15 MSL; 21,900 cubic feet per second average (CFS) Garrison Dam daily releases.

*N.D. Game & Fish Dept. Dist. game wardens: No new reports.

*Devils Lake, Ed’s Bait Shop, Devils Lake: Fair to good walleye success along any of the bridges, Graham’s Island, or New and Old Mil bays, as well Mike’s Lake. Also try night fishing from shore for walleye. Nice white bass bite is underway.

*Devils Lake, Lakeview Lodge, Minnewaukan: Improving walleye success with warming water temperatures. Try a variety of presentations and move around.

*Devils Lake, West Bay Resort, Minnewaukan: Improving walleye success along the Minnewaukan Flats and Mauvais Coulee from boat and shore with warming water temperatures.

*Devils Lake, Woodland Resort, Devils Lake: Steady walleye success in 8 to 16 feet. Try pitching crankbaits towards shore working any of the bays. White bass bite starting along the shorelines. Occasional pike mixed in with the walleye.

*Foster County area lakes, Dry Dock, Carrington: Lots of activity throughout area lakes but limited reports on success.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Pioneer Bait & Tackle, Jamestown: Lots of activity with continued success for a mix of walleye, pike, and perch. Look for crappie activity from Jamestown Reservoir, as well.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Continued activity throughout area lakes with overall fair to good success.

*Lake Ashtabula, Ashtabula Crossing, Luverne: Lots of activity with continued fair to good success for a mix of species.

*Lake Ashtabula, Bayshore, Valley City: Fair to good panfish success, including good numbers of crappie and smallmouth bass. Quiet yet for white bass and bluegill, however. Occasional walleye and pike.

*Lake Sakakawea, Cenex Bait & Tackle, Garrison: East end of Lake Sakakawea fair for walleye working any of the bays as far west as Douglas Bay. Work a variety of depths from shallow along the shoreline out to 30 feet. Move around using jigs or Lindy rigs and nightcrawlers, or leeches. Better success still remains around New Town, however. Lake Audubon fair for walleye.

*Lake Sakakawea, Indian Hills Resort, Garrison: Warming water temperatures in the back bays. McKenzie Bay producing smallmouth bass with improving walleye activity around Indian Hills. Work shallow in less than 20 feet with the bite switching to nightcrawlers.

*Lake Sakakawea/Lake Audubon/Missouri River, Scott’s Bait and Tackle, Pick City: Missouri River tailrace improving for walleye. Lake Sakakawea inconsistent for walleye. Try jigging shallow. Good smallmouth bass and small pike success throughout the east end. Lake Audubon producing decent walleye success.

*Pipestem Reservoir, Pioneer Bait & Tackle, Jamestown: Fair success, including crappie.

N.D. rivers, river stage and streamflow:

*James River, Kensal: River stage, 1 foot; streamflow, 1.4 CFS.

*Pembina River, Walhalla: River stage, 1.35 feet; streamflow, 26 CFS.

*Red River, Grand Forks: River stage, 16.42 feet; streamflow, 2,200 CFS.

*Sheyenne River, Warwick: River stage, 3.07 feet; streamflow, 48.1 CFS.
