Garrison Diversion awards $5,750 matching recreation grant to the New Rockford Park District

CARRINGTON, ND (May 28, 2021) – The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District’s (Garrison Diversion) Recreation Committee recently awarded a $5,750 matching recreation grant to the New Rockford Park District to construct a warming house and boat rental building at the All Veterans Park.

The Recreation Committee awarded matching recreation grants to 24 projects totaling $625,162, the largest award at a single meeting to date. Grants may be requested for new recreation facilities or enhancement, ADA renovations or expansion of existing facilities. Political subdivisions located within Garrison Diversion may apply for the program. “We had a diverse range of project requests, which we did our best to accommodate,” says Bruce Klein, Recreation Committee Chairman. “Being able to help such a large number of communities fund their recreation projects is so rewarding and is enjoyed by our entire committee!”

The 24 projects receiving Matching Recreation Program grants in the spring of 2021 are as follows:

• Barnes County Park Board - $51,005 to develop a comprehensive water/paddle trail on and along the Sheyenne River

• Bismarck Parks & Recreation - $75,167 to add fitness elements and accessible pathways at Sertoma Park; $80,513 to construct a restroom facility in the Tom O’Leary Recreation Complex

• Burleigh County Commission - $6,000 to replace the south picnic shelter at the Steckel Boat Landing

• West Fargo Park District - $202,300 to purchase and install a new playground and surfacing along with picnic shelters at Maplewood Park

• Oakes Parks & Recreation - $7,520 to replace playground equipment at the West Side Park

• New Rockford Park District - $5,750 to construct a warming house and boat rental building at the All Veterans Park

• LaMoure County Park Board- $4,573 for new playground equipment at the LaMoure County Memorial Park

• City of Upham - $9,125 for new playground equipment at Upham City Park

• Riverdale Park Board - $1,500 to install a gazebo at Lakeside Park

• Turtle Lake Park District - $1,980 to purchase picnic tables for the city park

• Pierce County Park Board - $3,250 to add campsites and make additional improvements at the Buffalo Lake Recreation Area

• Ransom County Water Resource District - $23,750 to replace the beach walkway at Dead Colt Creek Recreation Area

• Lisbon Park District - $11,000 for upgrades to Sandager Park

• Renville County Commission - $2,075 to construct a picnic shelter at Mouse River Park

• Abercrombie City Park Board - $34,682 for improvements to the city park

• Hankinson Park Board - $29,984 for improvements and expansion to the city park campground

• Colgate Township - $6,250 for development of a park and playground in the City of Colgate

• Kensal City Park Board - $11,250 for improvements to the Kensal City Park

• Stutsman County Park Board - $3,113 for the park bench project along Jamestown Reservoir trails

• City of Pingree - $17,475 to develop the Pingree Memorial Park

• Williams County Parks - $14,650 for improvements to Little Egypt Recreation Area; $17,500 to construct a vault toilet at McGregor Dam

• Williams County Water Resource District - $4,750 to construct a low water ramp at the confluence southwest of Williston

Garrison Diversion dedicates two-tenths of its mill levy to the Matching Recreation Grant Program. Funds from this program have been awarded to install new playground equipment at parks, develop campground facilities and walking paths, among other projects. Throughout the life of the program, over $7 million has been awarded for recreation projects.
