Rivalry continues, Cardinals defeat Black Sox on home field

Sheyenne-New Rockford traveled to rival regional opponent Carrington on May 10, and defensively played one of their worst games of the year. The game was sloppy in the field for both teams, with each team committing six errors and many more defensive blunders.

The scoring for the two teams was back and forth from early on. SNR started the scoring in the first inning. Lead off batter Kaden Jensen started the inning off with a double. Next, Caden Price reached on an error, advancing Jensen to third. Price was caught stealing second. Jensen scored on a dropped third strike-wild pitch and an error, on which Nick Berglund reached third base. Berglund scored on a double by Hunter Jacobson.

Carrington came back in the second inning to take the lead, scoring three runs. Hudson Schmitz reached on an error, Austin Trelstad singled and Michael Clifton was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Schmitz scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Noah Paulson. Trelstad and Paulson scored on an error.

SNR retook the lead in the third inning, scoring two more runs. Price reached on an error and Berglund walked. Price scored on a single by Jacobson. Berglund scored on a bad pick-off throw to first base.

The tide turned in the game when the Sox were not able to capitalize on the situation with two bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings.

Carrington took advantage of two more errors in the fifth inning to take the lead for good and they never looked back. They scored eight more runs in the sixth inning off of three relief pitchers to end the game by the ten-run rule.

Nick Berglund started the game as pitcher for the Black Sox, pitched five innings and despite not giving up an earned run, took the loss. Lucas Hendrickson earned the win for Carrington.
