Obituary: Orville Holland

Orville Holland, 92, of Carrington, N.D., passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, N.D.

Funeral service was held Monday, May 10, 2021 at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington. Burial was held at the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, N.D. Rev. Rick Loewen officiated the service. Casket bearers were Dallas Braaten, Alan Scanson, Tim Schroeder, Dylan Belgarde, Brian Harrington and Keith Harrington. Honorary bearers were all of Orville's grandchildren.

Orville Holland was born on Oct. 15, 1928, to Ole and Vivian (Harding) Holland on the family farm in rural Grace City, N.D. He grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room country school through the eighth grade.

After the eighth grade, Orville continued to work on the family farm, planting small grains, haying and raising cattle. Orville loved his animals, which he enjoyed more than most people. Farming was his life. He married Mavis Harrington on June 5, 1976, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, N.D. From this union, Orville gained four step-children and was blessed with a daughter Kristy. Mavis and Orville later divorced. He was the best at taking care of his farm cats and his cattle. He would run rural water through the ditch and culvert into the pasture, so his cattle wouldn't have far to walk for water. Orville had cattle until he was 85, when he went into the nursing home.

He is survived by daughter Kristy Holland (Joe Sherman); step-children Brenda Stokes, Keith (Nita) Harrington, Brian (Denise) Harrington, Sheila Harrington; grandchildren, Nicole Gibson (Dylan Belgarde), Hayle Erickson; step-grandchildren; and nieces, LuAnn (Martin) Sjursen and Candice Schroder.

Orville is preceded in death by his parents Ole and Vivian Holland; Mavis Holland; sister, Elsie (Paul) Schroeder and nephew, Larry Schroeder.
