Obituary: James Ferguson

James "Jim" William Ferguson, 87, of New Rockford, N.D. passed away April 10, 2021 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, N.D.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford. Burial was held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Fr. Reese Weber and Deacon Bart Salazar officiated with special music by Heather Klocke. Casket bearers were Nathan Turcotte, Jared Balow, Casey Weber, Levi Weber, Tory Turcotte, Brenden Melvie, Connor Melvie, Devin Melvie, Jayden Ferguson, Cru Walker and Jack Ferguson. Honorary bearers were all of Jim's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Military honors by Raymond B. Thorn American Legion, Post #30, New Rockford and North Dakota National Guard Funeral Honors Team.

James Ferguson was born on April 6, 1934 to Kenneth and Violet (Gwynn) Ferguson in Carrington, N.D.

He graduated with honors from Carrington High School. After he graduated, he went to work at JCPenney for a period of time and then enlisted in the Army. In the Army he worked with Morse code, and built and fixed radios.

He met his wife, Marlys Seiler, at a dance and they were married on June 10, 1954 in Augusta, Ga. They settled in New Rockford in 1960, where they raised their seven children.

He was a member of the Eagles Club, St. John's Church, and was a third degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Marlys; his children Kim Ferguson of Fargo, N.D.; Roxann (Loren) Melvie of Bismarck, N.D.; Jill Weber of New Rockford, N.D.; Jewel Turcotte of Chanhassen, Minn.; Jay Ferguson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Guy (Mandy) Ferguson of Bismarck, N.D.; Tye (Erin) Ferguson of Shakopee, Minn. and 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Joe and Marian (Ulness) Seiler; sister Lorraine Jensen; brother Eugene Ferguson; son-in-law Bradley Weber; and grandson Dylan Turcotte.
