Obituary: Kathleen Caulfield

Kathleen Caulfield, 86, Jamestown, N.D., formerly New Rockford, N.D., died early Wednesday morning March 31, 2021, at her daughter's home in Buchanan.

Kathleen A. Lewis was born Sept. 12, 1934 on the family farm near Nortonville, N.D. in LaMoure Co, the daughter of Paul Lewis and Lucille (Albert) Lewis. She received her elementary education in the local school and graduated from the Nortonville High School.

Kathleen and Patrick Caulfield were married June 25, 1955 in Jamestown, N.D. They made their home in New Rockford, N.D. where Kathleen worked in a clothing store, bakery, floral shop, daycare and as a teachers aid. She is best known for the love she gave many children whom she brought into her home to care for. She treated every child as if they were her own.

Kathleen and Pat moved to Buchanan in 2017 to live with their daughter, and after failing health and health issues, they later entered Ave Maria and Edgewood in Jamestown. Following the death of her husband on July 27, 2019, she continued to reside at Edgewood in Jamestown until November of 2020, when she moved back in with her daughter and son-in-law, where she was truly loved and cared for. At her daughter's home, she also had three caretakers who gave her the personalized one-on-one great care that made it possible for her to be with her family.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in New Rockford, N.D., served as President of St. Cecelia Circle, and was also a lifetime axillary member of the American Legion.

Kathleen is survived by three children, Shawn (Cathy) Caulfield, Bryan (Billie Jo) Caulfield, both of Jamestown, N.D. and Colleen (Terry) Lund, Buchanan, N.D.; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; four brothers, Greg Lewis, Merrill (Delores) Lewis, Joey (Charlene) Lewis, Doug Herzog; two sisters, Alida (Lloyd) Sjostrom, and Patsy (Don) McAnallen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Elizabeth, and infant sister Shirley.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, N.D. (1:30 PM Rosary). Interment was made in the Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, N.D.

Visitation was held from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the Haut Funeral home.

Arrangements were by the Haut Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Jamestown, N.D.
