Obituary: Dorothy Bauer

Dorothy Augusta Bauer, 92, of Carrington, N.D. passed away on March 31, 2021 at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, N.D.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND. Burial was held at the Carrington Cemetery. Pastor Sara Shanks officiated the service, with special music by Clara Edwardson, and Jon and Junelle Hjelmstad. Casket bearers were Orvin Godejohn, Jeffrey Thune, Jon Hjelmstad, Kyle Kutzer, Jason Theede and Steven Kensmoe.

Dorothy was born on Nov. 6, 1928 in Wahpeton, N.D. to Carl Sr. and Augusta (Pedersen) Hansen. Dorothy grew up on the family farm near Hankinson, N.D. She attended a one-room schoolhouse, Greendale Township #4, grades 1-8. She graduated from the Morris Agriculture High School, Morris, Minn. Following high school, she attended and graduated from NDSCS, Wahpeton, N.D.

On Oct. 19, 1948, Dorothy married Merle Floyd Bauer of McClusky, N.D., in Wahpeton. This union was blessed with a son, Micheal. They were married for 60 years.

After 31 years at Bremer Bank, Dorothy retired as an assistant vice president of real estate, and consumer loan officer. During her banking career, she served as director of the Jamestown Chapter BAI, a banking organization.

Dorothy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Along with women's groups, she participated in the church choir for more than 40 years.

Dorothy loved music and was very gifted. She excelled at playing piano and organ, which was quite an accomplishment, since she couldn't read notes and played everything by ear. Dorothy wrote a song for Merle in 1979 and had it copyrighted.

Dorothy is survived by several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; son, Micheal; siblings Carl Hansen, Luella Hahn, Lorenz Hansen, Lavon Luhman, and Leona Steele.

Dorothy was a kind-hearted person who loved her family, friends and community with her whole heart. God bless her beautiful memory.
