New Rockford-Sheyenne youth boys basketball takes first place

The 2021 New Rockford Classic took place in the New Rockford-Sheyenne Gymnasium this past Sunday. A total of 19 teams in grades five through seven competed in the tournament.

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets boys team started the tournament off against the Belcourt Elite team. The Rockets defeated the Belcourt Elite 26-12. The Rockets played against Minot Air Force Base in the second game, and defeated them 31-27. The Rockets then moved on to the championship round to defeat the Minot Air Force Base team 46-39. The Rockets finished first in the seventh-grade division. Minot Air Force Base placed second and Belcourt Elite placed third.

In the girls seventh-grade division, there were two pools. The Rockets competed in pool A against Bismarck Bearstail. Bismarck Bearstail defeated the Rockets 16-12. The Rockets then moved on to play the Buxton Sevies. The Buxton Sevies defeated the Rockets 13-12. The last game of the day, for the Rockets, was against the Kidder County Hot Shots. The Hot Shots defeated the Rockets 26-16.

The Carrington Cardinals girls and boys were two other teams who participated in the tournament.

The Carrington girls team competed in the 5th/6th grade division. The Cardinals took on the Roseau Rams in the first round. The Rams defeated the Cardinals 16-14. The Cardinals then moved on to take on the Thompson Boltz. The Cardinals defeated the Boltz 16-12. The Boltz and Cardinals would now play in the semifinals. Carrington defeated the Boltz yet again 23-19. The Cardinals would now take on the Roseau Rams in the Championship round. The Roseau Rams defeated the Cardinals 18-8, leaving the Cardinals with second place.

The Carrington Cardinal boys team competed in the fifth grade division. For the Cardinals first game, they were to take on Nelson County. Nelson County defeated the Cardinals 26-12. Carrington then moved on to take on the Jamestown Jammers. The Jamestown Jammers defeated the Cardinals 19-13. Carrington then played the Jamestown Jammers again in the semifinals and lost 28-12. The Cardinals placed third in the fifth grade division.
