Shear Delight Salon welcomes new stylist

Carly Jo is bringing a little fire to the Shear Delight salon on Central Avenue! Redhead (for now) Carly Jo Thompson, a veteran stylist with nearly 20 years of experience, will begin booking appointments in New Rockford on April 1.

A native of Fargo and graduate of Josef's School of Hair, Skin and Body, Carly Jo began her career at Hair Success in Fargo, where she worked for 2 years. She then moved to Olivieri's Salon (Namaste) for 13 years before making the leap to her own booth at Urban Edge Salon of Fargo in 2015.

Her introduction into the cosmetology industry came while working at a beauty supply outlet in Fargo after high school. She was encouraged to take a tour of Josef's to learn more about the trade, and she was hooked.

Education is important to Carly Jo. She has traveled across the country to stay up to date on the latest methods and trends, studying at both the Minneapolis, and New York, Aveda Arts & Sciences Institutes. She also attended the Goldwell Academy in Santa Monica, Calif., a program designed to help salon owners accelerate their success.

For stylists like Carly Jo, who are constantly seeking to advance their skills, the last year has been hard, considering that no in-person education has been held due to the pandemic. To fulfill her desire to learn, she's taken virtual classes through Behind the Chair, the world's largest community for salon professionals. Members can access a wide range of classes on-demand through their BTC University, which offered Carly Jo the next best thing to in-person education.

Carly Jo is engaged to Sheyenne area farmer Eric Carlson, and she intends to split her time between New Rockford and Fargo. At Shear Delight, Carly Jo will focus her attention on cuts and color, and is open to doing some styling and updos. She offers services for men, women and kids.

Red and copper are hot color trends right now. In regard to cuts; shaggy, textured cuts are all the rage, Carly Jo said. Stylists are also embracing the natural texture of a person's hair, by styling in ways that enhance their naturally curly, wavy or coarse locks.

"I want people to have a good cut and good color, and then (they) can style it at home without any trouble," Carly Jo said.

Appointments will be available on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, with hours to be determined. To schedule an appointment with Carly Jo, call Shear Delight Salon at (701) 947-5963.
