Senior Dani Bjerke looks for an open teammate while Kidder County guard, Avery Rath plays defense.
The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets traveled to Steele on Friday, Feb. 5 to take on the Kidder County Wolves in their home gym. The Wolves defeated the Rockets 63-37.
Senior Dani Bjerke put up a three-pointer in hopes of getting ahead of the Wolves. But it wasn't enough. Kidder County sophomore, Kennedy Harter put up 10 points just in the first quarter. After the first quarter the Rockets were down by eight points.
During the second quarter, Cassie Longnecker put up two three-pointers for the Rockets. Kidder County guard, Madelyn Schmidt brought in eight points for the Wolves to take a 14-point lead on the Rockets. Bjerke received a technical foul in the beginning of the second quarter.
The Rockets slowed down their pace in the third quarter with Bjerke scoring a three-pointer and Chloe Heinz scoring a field goal. The Wolves were still on top of their game. Schmidt brought in another eight points and Avery Rath brought in six points. During the third quarter, sophomore Mya Cudworth fouled out.
For the Rockets, Bjerke brought in 13 total points. Longnecker brought in eight points. Schmidt held the most points for the Wolves with 25 total points. Also in double digits for the Wolves were Harter with 17 points and Rath with 10 points.
The junior varsity Rockets defeated the Wolves 66-42. Kelsie Belquist was the top scorer for the Rockets with 16. Other top scorers for the Rockets were Kaiya O'Connor with 14 points and Madisen Myhre with 10 points.
Taylor Zimmerman led the Wolves with nine points. Grace Nicholson wasn't far behind with eight total points.
