Obituary: Delmer Leapaldt

Delmer R. Leapaldt, 86, of Carrington, N.D., formerly of rural Woodworth, N.D., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021 at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodworth, N.D. Burial was held at New Home Lutheran Cemetery, rural Woodworth, N.D. Rev. Robert Hill officiated with special music by David Morlock and Eldon Redlin. Casket bearers were Derrek Leapaldt, Morgan Anderson, Christina Lewis, Amanda Baumann, JR Hoppe and Kyle Leapalt. Honorary bearers were Jaxton and Jolie Leapaldt, Mia and Jalen Anderson, Gavin and Avery Lewis, Emerson Baumann, McKenna, Madelyn and Charleigh Hoppe. Military Honors by American Legion Post 205 Rice-Deede and North Dakota National Guard Honors Team.

Delmer R. Leapaldt was born March 6, 1934 in Gerber Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota, the son of Paul & Louise (Flemmer) Leapaldt. He grew up attending school in Gerber and Lowery Townships. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War from 1957 to 1959. He married Rose Guthmiller on Sept. 24, 1961.

He was active in the community. Delmer was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a church elder. He was on the Gerber Township Board for 60 years and was a member of the American Legion. Delmer served on the LAND board, Woodworth Elevator Board, Woodworth Housing Authority, and the Woodworth School Board.

He enjoyed history and sharing it with others. Delmer loved his family dearly and always enjoyed the get-togethers. His grandkids and great-grandkids were his pride and joy.

Delmer enjoyed his life as a farmer and rancher. He took great pride in his cattle and sheep. He especially enjoyed his Simmental cattle. He grew up hunting and trapping and passed that legacy on to his kids and grandkids.

Delmer is survived by his three children, Bryan (Gay) Leapaldt, Leeds, N.D.; Denise (Harley) Hallwachs, Pettibone, N.D.; and Wes (Deb) Leapaldt, Woodworth, N.D.; brother, Reuben (Nancy) Leapaldt, Eugene, Ore.; sister-in-law, Geraldine Guthmiller, Jamestown, N.D.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rose, and one brother Arnold.
