Squirrels sweep Rockets

NR-S girls fall in OT to Nelson Co.

The Central Cass Squirrels came to NR-S for a girls' and boys' basketball doubleheder on December 29, and came away with wins over the Rockets in both instances.

The Squirrel girls, who have since moved to the top spot in the Class B girls' basketball poll, had no trouble with the Rockets in a 61-19 rout in the opener.

Game two proved well worth the price of admission, with Central Cass winning by the slimmest of margins, 56-55.

Evan Ulrich's 22 points were the top performance for NR-S in defeat. Also achieving double figures were Johnny Grann (14 points) and Nick Berglund (13). For the Squirrels, shared scoring honors with 14 points each went to Joshua Dixon and Max Kobbervig, and Sam Kobbervig pitched in with 12 for then 3-0 (now 6-0) Central Cass. The loss dropped the NR-S boys to 4-2 overall.

Last Tuesday, January 5, the Rocket girls dropped a heartbreaking 57-48 overtime decision to Nelson County in McVille in the first game of each team's District 7 slate.

The setback puts NR-S' record at 2-3 and 0-1 in conference play, while NC improved to 3-2 and 1-0.

Scoring summaries from the two girls' games were not available at press time.

This Thursday, the Rocket girls host HWC (A-B-C, 4 p.m.), and will travel to Devils Lake on Saturday for "Class B Day" against a to-be-determined opponent. The boys open their District 7 obligations on Tuesday against the Warwick Warriors (A-B-C, 4:30) and take on Dakota Prairie (A-B-C, 4:30) Friday. Both sets of games will be at the NR-S Gym.
