Obituary: Leslie Whetham

Leslie John Whetham of St. Paul, Minn., passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020.

Leslie John Whetham was born on April 2, 1959 to Mervin "Mickey" and Vivian (Koplin) Whetham. He was born and raised in New Rockford, N.D. He joined the Navy right out of high school and began an exciting 20-year career as a Submarine Sonar Tech. After retiring from the Navy, Leslie worked at Applied Materials, Austin Texas, before moving to St. Paul to work at Polar Semiconductor as a Maintenance Tech.

Leslie enjoyed riding his motorcycle and took many trips with friends throughout the years. He went fishing with family members, especially his uncle Tom. He enjoyed big game hunting in Wyoming with his best friend, Scott Schulz. Family (cousins) and friends enjoyed many great conversations with him about everything including his Navy adventures. Leslie was a Life Member of the White Bear Lake VFW Post #1782, past Master of Northeast Masonic Lodge #125, and past President of Masonic Motorcycle Club #24.

Survived by wife Geneva (Maldonado); daughter Athena Whetham; stepchildren Ruby Touki, Roseann Miranda, and Robin Gonzales; grandchildren, Isabelle Whethatm, Lillie Angelo and Suki Gonzales. Sisters Kay Evenson (Christian Kuleck), Janet (Ronald) Sinkler and Kathy (Cody) Lesmeister. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held in the Spring. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.
