Heinz makes All-Region XC

New Rockford-Sheyenne's Chloe Heinz, by virtue of her 17th place finish at the Class B East Region Cross Country Meet in Cooperstown, has earned All-Region status.

Heinz, a senior and the daughter of Jon and Cherry Heinz of New Rockford, crossed the finish line at Cooperstown Golf Club in a time of 20 minutes, 57.3 seconds.

Two other runners competed for the Rockets in the girls' race, those being Ava Peterson, who took 84th overall (24:03.1), and Katie Allmaras (24:11.0), just two places behind her in 86th. There were no male runners for NR-S.

Rugby won the girls' overall title with 43 points, 47 better than second-place Hillsboro-Central Valley, and had the individual champion as well. Brooklyn Bartsch won the race in 19:15.9, five seconds ahead of second-place finisher Peyton Gette of Kindred. In the boys' competition, HCV took top honors with 62 points, and Griggs County Central was second with 88.

The boys' individual champion was HCV's Christian Brist, who eclipsed the 17-minute mark in winning the race by almost 17 seconds over second-place Ethan Schaffer of Kindred.

Because of COVID-19 related developments, the Class B State Cross Country Meet was moved to Cooperstown this past Saturday, away from its initial host venue of Parkhurst Recreation Area in Jamestown. Parkhurst retained the Class A portion of the meet.
