Rockets routed by Eagles

Rarely has it been the case, at least in recent New Rockford-Sheyenne football lore, when a game has turned against them to the extent that the Rockets aren’t even competitive at the final horn.

The North Border Eagles accumulated 368 total yards, 304 of those on the ground, and shut out NR-S from the first quarter on en route to a runaway 50-8 win over the visitors in Pembina Friday night, September 18.

Already trailing by a 14-0 score in the first quarter, the Rockets got their lone points on the scoreboard on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Johnny Grann to Kaden Jensen. The two also added the two-point conversion play to move to within 14-8.

It was all Eagles from that point on. Senior Jaden Lee had three touchdowns for North Border, spread out between the first three quarters. Jaxen Johnson returned a 26-yard interception for a score in the second quarter, and Eagle quarterback Cooper White completed a 25-yard scoring play to TJ Cosley in the third.

North Border (4-1 Region 2, 4-1 overall) got one more touchdown in the final quarter, a six-yard run by Carson Brown.

Also with a touchdown earlier in the contest was Eli Bjornstad, who started the scoring for NBHS with a four-yard run.

The Eagles shut down the Rockets’ explosive passing game, holding Grann to 9-for-21 passing for 90 yards and forcing three interceptions.

Now 2-2 in both the overall standings and Region 2, NR-S will now have some work to do in the second half of the season if they want to snag one of the region’s four playoff spots.

The team was placed in quarantine for the next two weeks following a COVID-19 outbreak at NRSHS which affected the fall sports programs.

Scheduled games against Nelson County (originally slated for September 25) and North Prairie (October 2) will both be moved to to-be-determined dates. Reschedule dates will be printed in the Transcript when they are known.
