Thompson to lead special education

As the new school year approaches, Megan Thompson has been busy preparing her classroom at New Rockford-Sheyenne School. This marks a huge milestone for the recent Valley City State University grad: she has her very own classroom, with her name on the door.

Thompson is employed by East Central Center for Exceptional Children to deliver special education services to the students at New Rockford-Sheyenne Elementary. She brings to the job a specialized dual degree in elementary education and special education as well as professional experience.

She worked in the Kensal School District, both as a para and in special education. NR-S not only offers Thompson perks like her own classroom, but it also give Thompson a much anticipated opportunity to work directly with a larger number of students. At NR-S, she will be working with upwards of 20 students.

When asked about her inspiration to pursue a career to special education she said simply, “I have my younger brother to thank.”

Thompson is the oldest of nine siblings and learned a great deal of patience growing up.

It was her brother, though, who struggled with his homework. “I was there to help him, and it taught me a lot about my strengths.”

Thompson lives in Carrington and enjoys spending time with her siblings and parents. At home, she has two kittens and spends her free time reading.
