Obituary: Karsten Schweitzer

Karsten Schweitzer, 71, of Sykeston, N.D., died Saturday, August 1, at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck, N.D., with family by his side.

Karsten Edward Schweitzer was born on February 3, 1949, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn (Fossum) Schweitzer in Altona, Manitoba, Canada, which was the closest hospital to their home in Neche, N.D. He lived in Neche, N.D., and later moved to Ray, N/D. In 1953, with his parents, he moved to Carrington, N.D., where he and his family-owned and operated the Bowling Alley from 1968 to 1997. At various points in his life, Karsten called many other places home including, Bismarck, N.D., Fargo, N.D., Minneapolis, Minn., and Seattle, Wash.

In 1978, Karsten was united in marriage to Janelle in Carrington, N.D. They were blessed with a son Aaron, and a daughter Amber. Through the years they took many family vacations that will always be remembered.

He was passionate about bowling, even spending a brief stint pursuing it professionally. Karsten had a love for the arts occupying his free time carving, painting or doodling. He loved music, singing in the choir for many years. Karsten enjoyed competing in many pool and dart leagues, playing cards and golfing. He also adored spending time with his grandchildren, and most importantly with all of his friends and family.

Karsten will be remembered and deeply missed by his son, Aaron Schweitzer, Phoenix, Ariz.; his daughter, Amber (Jeremey) Trostad Carrington, N.D., two granddaughters Kenedy and Brinley; six sisters, Charlotte (Howard) Nelson, Carrington, Lea Ellen (Harvey) Rutherford, Oliver Springs, Tenn., JoNell (Tina) Schweitzer Bay St. Louis, MS, Lori (Mike) Durant, Granbury, Texas, Kristine (Jonathan) Drake of England, and Teri (Neal) Letcher, Jamestown, N.D.; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was greeted in heaven by his parents, a brother, Darrel; and a son Damian Voglewede.
