Obituary: Wesley Hanson

Wesley Alan Hanson, 69, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, died Friday, July 3, 2020, at Avera McKenna Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Funeral service was held Friday, July 10 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon, N.D. Burial was at the Grandfield Lutheran Cemetary in rural Sheyenne, N.D. Pastor Jeff Halvorson officiated the service. Honorary bearers included Shelly Olheifer, Nathan Brines, Dustin Church, Troy Church and Jared Church.

Hanson was born on October 6, 1950, at Devils Lake, N.D. to Ever and Alta (Lunden) Hanson. He graduated from Oberon High School in 1968. He attended and graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D.

He taught school in Grandin, N.D. Wes held many jobs and for the last years was employed by Rydell Chevrolet in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Wes enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Wes made and kept friends from all aspects of his life from childhood, school, college, work and communities. He had a love for sports at all levels and attended as many events as he could. Wes will forever be known for his stories, jokes, kindness and generosity. There was never a quiet time when Wes was around.

He is survived by his sisters Diane Brines of Dickinson and Wendy Church of Devils Lake, brother Tiger (Alan) Hanson, Oberon, one niece, four nephews, four great-nieces, five great-nephews, and a great-great niece and nephew.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Bernice, brother Oley and brother-in-law James Brines.
