Obituary: Marilyn Anderson

Marilyn Anderson, 87, Velva, N.D., passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Marilyn Ann Logen was born on Jan. 19, 1933, a daughter of Andrew and Gilma (Nyhusmoen) Logen, on the family farm in Benson County, N.D. She was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Sheyenne, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Sheyenne High School in 1950. She then attended Minot State Teachers College, where she received her Standard Teaching Certificate. She then taught for a short time in a rural school.

On June 25, 1952, Marilyn was united in marriage to Clarence L. Anderson in Sheyenne, N.D. They made their home in Sheyenne, until 1971, when they moved to Velva, N.D. She taught piano lessons out of her home and served as the church organist at Oak Valley Lutheran Church. Clarence passed away March 9, 1978.

Following her husband's death, Marilyn continued to reside in Velva and worked as a bookkeeper at Farmers Union Oil Company for over 20 years.

Marilyn was a member of the Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, where she was the church organist until early 2019. During this time, she played for numerous weddings, music festivals, the North Dakota State Fair, and funeral services. She was also a member of Sons of Norway and the Velva Woman's Club.

She enjoyed reading and was part of the Readers Forum Book Club and playing music. She loved visiting and having coffee with friends.

Her loving family includes: children, Carolyn (Jim) Olson, Velva, David (Linda) Anderson, Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Mark (Jill) Anderson, Bismarck, N.D .; grandchildren, Aaron Olson, Bryan Olson, Eric Anderson, Kaitlin Anderson, Ryan Anderson; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Muriel Thoreson, Devils Lake, N.D .; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; grandson, Nathan Olson; and brothers, Donald and Alden Logen.

A private family funeral was held Friday, May 29 at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND.

A public graveside service was held on Friday, May 29, 2020 at the Velva Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva or the Valley View Manor Assisted Living in Velva.
