Partners in claims

There is a new face at the Farmers Union Insurance office in downtown New Rockford. Lucas Schumacher joined Donn Frahm as a partner in the business in February, and has been making adjustments of all sorts ever since.

Lucas's first weeks on the job kept him busy meeting with clients and making farm visits, but all that changed with the onset of COVID-19 precautions. Now Lucas spends his days processing renewals and tending to email. While he is keeping busy, he can't help but feel something is missing. "I need faces to go with names," he said during an interview with the Transcript Monday. "Instead I'm learning names by the files."

Lucas isn't the only one longing for more normal to set in. His family is here with him in New Rockford, and after the long winter there is one thing on their minds. "We are looking forward to this summer and the opening of the golf course," he said.

Golfing, it turns out is one of the interests in Lucas's life. The four year degree he holds is actually in golf course management, and he spent three years working as a golf instructor in Westminster, Colo. His wife Becky and their children Jackson, Jada and Luca would likely agree to a warm day on the green. Like most of us, they have spent the past weeks confined to their New Rockford home. Lucas shared that Becky has been spending her time overseeing the kids' distance education while managing her own college courses at Bemidji State. She is studying accounting.

Prior to coming to New Rockford, the Schumacher family lived in Crosby, N.D. While there, T.ucas gained more than 8 years of experience in the insurance industry, giving him the edge when it comes to serving the community.

Frahm said he heard about Lucas through the professional network of Farmers Union Insurance, and learned that Lucas was interested in relocating to eastern North Dakota to be closer to family. It appeared to be the perfect fit.

“I knew he was a quality individual, and I am glad to have him on board!” Frahm declared.

Frahm is in his 40th year as an insurance agent, and Lucas said he’s proud to work alongside and learn from him here in New Rockford.
