Obituary: Jean Martin

Jean Marie (Brecto) Martin, 74, passed away March 23, 2020, at the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash. A private family burial service was held on March 31 at Apiary Cemetery in rural Rainier.

Jean was born on Sept. 2, 1945 in New Rockford, ND, to Darwin and Anna (Milsten) Brecto. She grew up on the family dairy farm just east of New Rockford along with her ten older brothers and sisters. Jean graduated from New Rockford Central High School in 1963. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran in New Rockford.

On June 23, 1963 she was married at First Lutheran Church in New Rockford to Roger Martin of Harvey, ND. They had first met while roller skating at the Brown Memorial Auditorium in New Rockford. They lived in Harvey for a few years before settling down in Rainier, Ore., where they lived until her death.

Jean is survived by her husband; her children: Troy Martin, Rainier, Ore.; and Cindy (Marvin) Bloomer, Clatskanie, Ore.; three brothers, Richard Brecto, Audubon, Minn.; Darwin Brecto, Crystal, Minn.; and Edwin (Diana Rue), Brecto, New Rockford, N.D.; two sisters, JoAnn Hollatz, Waconia, Minn.; and LaVonne (Gerald) Wilson, Rainier; brother-in-law Donald (Kerry) Martin, Fargo, N.D.; sisters-in-law Janice Linderman, Salem, Ore.; Patti Brecto, Ulen, Minn.; Shirley (Virgil) Brodehl, Harvey, N.D.; Carol (Ernie) Charnetski, Minot; Judy Nelson; Harvey; six grandchildren; and a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews; and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Martin; her parents; her sisters Betty Brecto; Gail Holt; and Marlys Moren; and two brothers, David Brecto and Harlan Brecto; sister-in-law Carolyn Brecto; brothers-in-law Robert Holt; Marvin Hollatz; and Russell Moren.
