NR-S staff navigates online instruction, student learning resumes at home

Monday, March 23 began the second week of school closures per the governor's executive order in response to the coronavirus out- break.

Still, teachers reported to their classrooms to initiate a plan to deliver online learning to the district's more than 300 students.

Both students and teachers reported online via Google Classroom on Wednesday, March 25 to give the system a trial run. Teachers and students for grades K-4 gathered via a meeting through Google Classroom with the objective to ensure that both the teachers and students can connect.

Students grades 5-12 logged into Google Classroom at a normal class time. Pre-K families will be communicating with instructor Lori Demester regarding the options to engage pre-K distance learning.

NR-S Superintendent Jill Louters commended the students, parents and teachers for their efforts to support student learning. She also conveyed that challenges were a possibility. "We will continue to work with you through the challenges and the unique opportunities that this pandemic has presented."

After Wednesday's trial run, the school observed its regularly scheduled spring break on Thursday, Friday and Monday, during which no classes are scheduled.

Online classes resumed on the morning of Tuesday, March 31, and the students were well prepared.

Louters said, "Students, I want to thank you in advance for the work that you will be doing and the grit that you will be asked to demonstrate as you learn new things."

While the computer will serve as the primary learning tool, it will not be the only mode for learning. Still, all this will take some time to get used to.

Students are utilizing their school-issued chrome- books, while their families and caregivers are doing their best to create comfortable and productive learning environments.

At right, Lincoln Lang- ley proudly displays a sign that Pre-K instructor Lori Demester made. "Today is my first day of online learn- ing! Honk to let me know you are proud of me."

This learning model will continue for some time, as the Governor extended his order effectively closing school buildings until further notice.
