Wildcats edge Rockets

New Rockford-Sheyenne did not play very well overall as Benson County defeated the locals by a final score of 51-49 in District 7 boys basketball action played here before a pretty good crowd on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Benson County is one of top teams in District 7 and very likely will advance on to the Region 4 Tournament. The game was quite close most of the way. The locals led 12-11 after one stanza, it was tied at 21-21 at halftime. The Wildcats held a 22-18 scoring advantage in the third and led 43-39 after three. There was not much scoring in the final quarter. Benson County played a good game and played with quite a bit of energy. The Rockets missed some key free throws in the fourth but still had a chance to win it in the fourth, but a trey by Evan Ulrich at the horn fell short, and Benson County chalked up a big District win on the road.

Benson County made 21 field goals, 3-7 free throws, and committed 13 fouls. The Rockets made 17 field goals, 14-19 free throws, and committed 15 fouls. Kadin Neppl led Benson County with 19 points. Chase Benson had 11 points, and Blayne Anderson added 10. Bo Belquist led the locals with a game high 20 points. Hunter Thompson added 11 points. The Rockets are now 3-2 in District 7 and 9-4 overall.

Next action for the locals is Tuesday, Feb.11 at Northwood against Hatton-Northwood. Four games will be played, beginning at 4 p.m. On Thursday, Feb. 13 Rolette-Wolford comes to town. Three games will be played beginning at 4:30 p.m.
