Archival Anecdotes: Snow Days

Snow in winter is just part of living in North Dakota, you think we'd be used to it by now. Still each time the fluffy white stuff accumulates, we find ourselves begrudgingly getting out the snow blowers and facing the temperatures to move snow.

This photograph depicts a snapshot of winter life in the early 1900s in New Rockord. But to be honest, the photo I would love to see would show just how shop owners managed to move that much snow!

Little information was given with this photo, aside from the year '1902' inscribed on the back. The photo seems to have been taken on the north side of Central Ave with Eddy County State Bank and F. Howard Expert Watchmaker signs visible in the background.
