Farmers Union Insurance agents across the state receive $1,000 each year to give to local causes. Local agent Donn Frahm chose the New Rockford Dollars for Scholars this year to receive the award. Bank of North Dakota awards $1,000 to local chapter

The New Rockford Dollars for Scholars received a $1,000 donation from Bank of North Dakota (BND) to distribute as a scholarship. Their collaboration with the high school and local community to work with three different events earned the chapter this generous scholarship donation. The money was secured by hosting a Scholarship Power Hour during which NR-S seniors were instructed on how to set up their profiles for local scholarships, working with seniors during the College Application Month of October to sign up for college as the $35 application fee was waived, and attendance at the state Dollars for Scholars conference in Bismarck. These events encouraged families to become more aware of the opportunities available in the state for planning and financing post-secondary education.

North Dakota Dollars for Scholars has 65 community chapters in the state. Bank of North Dakota provides a State Director and operational support for local chapters. Since the first North Dakota chapter was established in 1962, Dollars for Scholars chapters in North Dakota have raised over $39.8 million and helped 42,226 students.

This year, the local chapter plans to distribute approximately $18,000 to local high school students and recent graduates attending college. Events such as the recent wienerschnitzel dinner and Buck-a-Point at basketball games increase the funds available for the students.
