High School musicians honor traditions

December 16, 2019

Holiday traditions were alive and well at the NR-S Music Department's annual Holiday Concert on Monday, Dec. 9. Students got an 'A' for effort as they donned some startling and original threads for the event, hoping to win cash in the ugly sweater contest. It was an evening of holiday cheer as the Jr. High Choir and Jr. High Pop Singers delivered classic carols such as "In Bethlehem Town" and "Feliz Navidad." The High School Choir took the audience on a "Moonlight Sleigh Ride" that ended with "Mary, Mary." The choirs then combined to perform "Peace, Peace" with Kayden Wiedrich on flute. The audience was invited to sing "Silent Night" during the second half of the performance, another NR-S tradition.

The bands then stepped up and got the party started.  The Jazz band opened with "Big Band Holiday" arranged by Strommen, and then moved into the classic "Joy to the World."  The Junior High and High School bands each offered a number of selections ranging from "Santa at the Symphony" to "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The two bands joined to provide music for the grand finale holiday sing-a-long.
