Rockets wipe the floor with Comets

The NR-S Rockets maintained their important top four positioning in the Super Region 4 standings table with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-21) victory at the expense of the Rolette-Wolford Comets in New Rockford Thursday night, Oct. 24.

Coach Sara Myhre’s club, hopeful of consistent play over the last two weeks of the regular season, aims to secure one of the quartet of

automatic berths to the Region 4 Tournament in Devils Lake beginning on Monday, Nov. 11. The fifth through 12th seeds at the end of the season will match up with each other in play-in matches that previous Friday for the right to advance.

Kayahna Hopfauf’s seven kills and three stuff blocks led the way for the Rockets, now 11-13 overall, 10-4 in Region points and owning a 5-2 conference record. NR-S had a balanced attack in the win, as McKayla Waldo added five more kills and three players, Mya Cudworth, Hannah Haley and Chloe Heinz, each had four to their credit.

Dani Bjerke had 22 assists and four aces on NR-S’ side, and libero Cassie Longnecker was active with 25 digs.

In defeat, the Comets fell to 3-16 on the year, and have four region points for and 12 against.

The Rockets close out the regular campaign for 2019 with a pair of Region 4 matchups, taking on current number eight spot team Dakota Prairie (3-15, 4-10 Region points) today, Nov. 4, in New Rockford, and close out with a rescheduled match from Oct. 10 when they travel to #11 Dunseith (4-13, 2-10 points) on Tuesday.
